Biren opens Level-I Trauma Care Centre at RIMS, Imphal

IMPHAL, Aug 31 - In an effort to bring down preventable deaths due to road accidents in the State, a Level�I Trauma Care Centre was formally inaugurated at the Regional Institute of Medical Science(RIMS) here vide a virtual event today.

Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh accompanied by Chairman Vungzagin Valte of Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC), Principal Secretary (Health) V Vumlunmang, Secretary to Chief Minister N Geoffrey attended the function at the CM�s office. The event was presided over by Director (Prof) A Santa of RIMS, who attended the event along with Medical Superintendent Prof Chandra Arunkumar along with doctors and staff of RIMS at the mini auditorium of the institute during the virtual event.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the state has highly qualified and experienced doctors and healthcare workers as compared to other neighbouring states.

Expressing hope that the state would overcome the pandemic with such dedicated services of the healthcare workers, he emphasised that a public awareness campaign would play an important role to combat the disease.

Later in a tweet, he wrote, �...aim is to bring down preventable deaths because of road accidents by developing a pan-Indian trauma care network within every 100 km radius.�

In his speech, Director (RIMS) Prof A Santa said that the number of ICU beds has been increased to 30 and more than 20 ventilators have been installed with a backup of another 30 ventilators in the Trauma Care Centre. Two Operation Theatres are available with two mobile X-Ray machines, he added.

The centre was constructed by MTDC involving a cost of Rs 11.34 crore sanctioned by Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfar under Capacity Building for Developing Trauma Care Facilities on National Highways.The Centre would have ICU beds, HCU beds, trolley beds, operation theatres, CT-scans, dialysis unit etc.
