Biren lauds media for its efforts in Manipur

IMPHAL, Sept 16 - Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday lauded the efforts of the media in the state, during the 46th foundation day celebrations of the All Manipur Working Journalists� Union (AMWJU) held in Imphal.

AMWJU president Kakchingtabam Bijoy, Manipur Hills Journalists� Union president Ramkung Pamei, Editors� Guild Manipur president Khogendra Khomdram were present on the occasion.

Chief Minister Biren appealed to all media houses to organise seminars and awareness campaigns to discuss issues related to liquor prohibition in the state.

Lauding the media, he said unwanted incidents didn�t take place in the state because of the sensible and responsible journalists. He said the government welcomes constructive and positive criticism for the state�s development. Biren also urged the media fraternity to support the government�s initiatives to curb the menace of drugs and alcoholism prevalent among the youths in the state.

AMWJU president Bijoy said journalists should be united and work together to fight against external pressure. Narrating various problems faced by journalists in the state, he urged the government to increase the pension given to retired journalists.

Chief Minister Biren also distributed prizes to the winner and runners-up of the 9th Annual Sports Meet of the AMWJU held during Yaoshang Festival 2019. He also honoured the founding members of AMWJU at the function attended by State Information Commissioner Oinam Sunil, Secretary to CM Ningthoujam Geoffrey and others.
