Biography of folk artiste released

BARPETA, Sept 16 � Janantik, a socio cultural organisation based here, organised a special function to celebrate the birth anniversary of noted folk artiste Jogesh Chandra Bharali here recently. Homage was paid to the great artiste by a number of personalities in the function held in the Barpeta Sahitya Sabha Bhawan.

A biography titled Lokageet Madhukar Jogesh Chandra Bharali, written by veteran academician, journalist and chief editor of Saptahik Prabah Akshay Kumar Mishra, was formally released by singer Snehalata Das. In her speech, Das recalled the days of her association with the seasoned artiste and said that the biography would be a valuable guide for the new generation. She concluded with a Kamrupee folk song which she had learnt from Bharali.

Participating in the function, Abani Ranjan Pathak, assistant director of All India Radio, Guwahati said that Mishra's attempt is the best way to aquaint the new generation with the great artiste. He thanked the people of Barpeta for remembering the artiste of the people.

The function was anchored by Mahananda Pathak, secretary of Barpeta Sahitya Sabha. Arjun Das, retired principal of Madhab Choudhury College, Barpeta lauded the efforts of Mishra which he termed as the best way to immortalise artistes. He also called for publication of biographies of other artistes who have not been recognised and deprived of their due status during their lifetime.

The biographer, Mishra recollected his experiences in writing the book and expressed his desire to write biographies of artistes who have been consigned to oblivion in the course of time.
