Bilasipara Raas festival opens today

GAURIPUR, Nov 12 - The 15-day historic Raas festival of Bilasipara was inaugurated today by Ashok Kumar Singhi and Aswini Kumar Ray Sarkar, MLAs, amid a large number of devotees.

The festival was declared open by Deputy Commissioner Anantalal Gyani and the exhibition of clay idols was formally inaugurated by Aswini Ray Sarkar and the entertainment garden was inaugurated by Subrata Sen, SDPO, Bilasipara. While the book fair, organised by the BR Publishers, was inaugurated for public by Paritosh Ghose and the Raas Chakra was inaugurated by Mridul Jadav, SDO, Civil, Bilasipara.

It may be mentioned here that a 41-member celebration committee has already been formed with Ashok Kumar Singhi as president and Ashok Das as secretary to run the festival smoothly and the office of the celebration committee has been inaugurated by Deep Sharma, chairman of Bilasipara Town Committee.

Hundreds of idols of Lord Krishna were installed in the decorated stalls made in the playground of IN Academy field and were illuminated attractively. More than 5,000 devotees from all caste and creed visited the Raas festival with pomp and gaiety on the day of inauguration of the festival today.
