Bike-borne miscreants loot Rs 3 lakh from woman at Sonapur

By Correspondent

JORABAT, Sept 23 - Two bike-borne miscreants looted Rs 3 lakh from a woman at Sonapur this afternoon.

Purnima Gond, an employee of a tea garden under the Sonapur Police Station, was just coming out of the campus of the Sonapur branch of the State Bank of India after withdrawing the amount, when the two motorcycle-borne miscreants, waiting near the gate, snatched the money bag from her and sped away.

Sources informed that the victim and her husband have been staying in a quarter of the tea garden for the last six years. As they are landless, Purnimas mother somehow managed to provide them with three lakh rupees so that they could buy a plot of land in a rural area and build their dream house.

Meanwhile, the Sonapur police picked up two persons from the Sonapur area this evening on suspicion of being the snatchers, but the duo has denied the charge.

The incident took place very close to the Sonapur Police Station. Similar incidents had taken place in the past. In one such incident, bike-borne miscreants had looted Rs 4 lakh from an unsuspecting person and Rs 1 lakh in another incident.

An interesting aspect in all these incidents is that all the victims had withdrawn money from the Sonapur branch of SBI, which is located just a few metres from the Sonapur PS.
