Bijoya appointed BJP vice president

NEW DELHI, March 16 � Only a handful of leaders from NE figured in BJP president, Nitin Gadkari�s new team, with Guwahati Lok Sabh MP Bijoya Chakravarti being appointed as one of the national vice presidents.

Tapir Gaon, former Lok Sabha member from Arunachal Pradesh, has been appointed as secretary. Others from North-east, who have been inducted into the new team included Mission Ranjan Das and Tamigo Taga respective leaders of the Legislature Party of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh Assemblies. Lok Sabha MPs, Ramen Deka and Rajen Gohain have been made members of the national executive.

Chakravarti, meanwhile, is amongst 13 national vice-presidents and the lone woman member of BJP to find a place in Gadkari�s new team.

Reacting to her appointment said that BJP had always given due importance to members from the North-east and tried to take along women members. She praised Gadkari for reposing faith in her and said she would try to live up to his expectations.

�My appointment signifies the importance given to North-east by BJP,� Chakravarti said.

Gadkari�s national executive comprises 121 members, including 13 vice-presidents, 10 general secretaries, 15 secretaries and one treasurer. The new team of office-bearers include as many as 13 women, which is 33 per cent of the total number. In all, there are 40 women members. Besides, the BJP president has also constituted the party�s Parliamentary Board.

The names of the members of the central election committee, morcha presidents and conveners of different cells besides some other functionaries would be announced later, said a party spokesman.
