GUWAHATI, May 4 - As in the previous years, Don Bosco School, Panbazar, will celebrate the 11th Don Bosco Annual Rongali Bihu Utsav on the school premises on May 13 and 14.
The celebration, which began in 2006 with a view to helping the students of Guwahati imbibe the spirit and flavour of this unique festival of Assam, has garnered immense response from students as well as guardians.
It may be mentioned here that the school authorities have undertaken several measures to make the children aware of the rich tradition of Assam, including conducting workshops on Bihu.
This year too, a two-week workshop (April 28-May 11) is being conducted on the school premises on the nuances of Bihu dance and the beats of the dhol. This workshop is being conducted by Ranjit Gogoi and his team.
The formal inauguration of the Bihu Utsav will be on the morning of May 14. This will be followed by an exhibition of traditional Assamese paraphernalia, an inter-house Bihu dance competition among the four houses of the school, and finally a cultural show at the Don Bosco School Bihutoli, which will witness a husori performance by Ranjit Gogois team, chorus by school teachers, classical dance by school students, performance by the school band, a song by the schools music teacher, Papu Gohain, and modern songs by guest artistes.
