GUWAHATI, April 12 - Like every year, the city will be hosting a number of big functions to celebrate Rongali Bihu with all its grandeur. The festival of fun and merriment is always a grand affair in the city with a number of events presenting both traditional and modern cultural programmes loved by all.
Ulubari Rongali Bihu Sanmilon that organises Bihu function on the Mahadev Mandir premises at Ulubari Chariali will host its 54th function this year from April 14 to 16.
Apart from a number of programmes like Bihu dance and husori presentations, a number of indigenous sports events and drawing competition for children will be organised at the venue.
Sanmilon�s mouthpiece Rongali will also be published on the occasion. The organisers have invited entries for a poem competition, organised by the editorial team of Rongali.
A number of Bihu organisers here are busy in their last-minute preparations to hold the function smoothly.
The All Guwahati Students' Union (AGSU) will host a �Mukoli Bihu� programme on April 14 at the Judges� Field from 10:15 am. The students� body organises this programme every year where a number of eminent persons from different segments of the society take part.
One of the oldest Bihu functions of the city is held at the Latasil playground, organised by Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani. This year, the Sanmilani will be holding its 68th Bihu function from April 14 to 17. Apart from a number of folk events, various sports events to promote traditional sports among the youths will be held.
Singing sensation Zubeen Garg will perform in this event on April 16. This year, 12 contestants have been finalised for the coveted Bihu Samragyi competition. The contestants have been finalised through auditions in several parts of the State.
Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan, which will hold its 58th Bihu function this year, has also chalked out elaborate plans to organise a number of events at the AEI field, Chandmari from April 14 to 17. This year, Barnali Kalita, Krishnamoni Nath, Bipin Saudang and Kusum Kailash are going to perform in the Bihu function on April 16 and 17.
Other major Bihu organisers include Paschim Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan and Pandu Bihu Sanmilani, Maligaon.
