GUWAHATI,April 21 - Celebrations to welcome the Assamese New Year in conformity with Rongali Bihu organised by Sandhani Mahila Chora, a recently-formed literary organisation of Banipur, Dibrugarh at the DSHK Commerce College field located at Banipur ended with great joy and merriment where participants from various organisations of Banipur and school children of different schools took part, a press release stated.

The ceremonial bihu flag hoisted in the form of gamosa in the presence of Hiren Gohain attracted many. This was the first of its kind as the flag was hoisted from a tree nearby showing the original symbol of Jeng Bihu.

The aim and objective of this kind of bihu was explained by Niharika Shrutikar, president of Sandhani Mahila Chora where she vividly described the importance of the bihu festival and its continuity which is to be shouldered by the young generation. The appointed speaker Jatin Gogoi in his speech gave an idea about the origin of Jeng Bihu and from where it had developed and its relevance in the present context. The chief guest Hiren Gohain stressed the need of preservation of our culture and heritage and its richness to be widely spread in the cultural arena in the world. Jharna Saikia, vice president of the chora presented the vote of thanks.
