Bihu celebrated by Indian Navy sailors

GUWAHATI, April 28 - Sailors of the Indian Navy hailing from Assam celebrated Rongali Bihu at Navy Nagar in Colaba of South Mumbai today. The day-long programme was organised by Luitporia.

Luitporia, a group of around 80 Assamese personnel working in the Indian Navy at Mumbai, has been celebrating Rongali Bihu since the last 18 years.

�We intend to keep our tradition alive even while staying away from home,� head of the group Mridul Boruah, who hails from Jorhat, said.

�Today�s programme included distribution of traditional Assamese dishes among the members, Bihu dance performances, songs, flute-playing etc. People from other parts of Mumbai too participated in the programme with enthusiasm,� another member of the group, Rocktim Borthakur informed telephonically.
