Bihu celebrated at Dehradun

GUWAHATI, April 27 - The Asom Association � Dehradun, a sociocultural forum formed by the people hailing from Assam and residing at Dehradun and its nearby areas, organized a grand cultural evening on April 24 at the ONGC Community Centre at Dehradun to mark the celebration of Rongali Bihu. This was stated in a press release issued by the association.

The association has been celebrating this festival since 2010 at Dehradun that showcases the rich folk culture and heritage of Assam to the people of Uttarakhand. This year the seventh edition of the festival included song and dance performances by local Doonites and the occasion was supported by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, North East Centre based at Guwahati which sent a troupe consisting of seventeen artistes who presented a fine blend of folk and classical dances of Assam.

The cultural evening was witnessed a very large audience and invited dignitaries who were felicitated with traditional Assamese gamosa. A bilingual colourful souvenir Ramdhenu was also released on the occasion and the visiting artistes were honoured with an exquisite memento each by the executive committee members.

The large gathering was welcomed by the association�s president Bipul Gohain and a vote of thanks was delivered by its secretary Mrinmoy Sharma. The organizers also expressed deep gratitude for the wholehearted support extended by the ONGC management, media, the Sangeet Natak Akademi North-East Centre and the untiring efforts put up by the members of the association.
