Bid to streamline school buses in Dibrugarh

By Staff correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Oct 14 - Taking a serious note of the haphazard and unorganised operation of school buses in the district, the Dibrugarh Regional Transport Authority (RTA) on Tuesday resolved to strictly implement the recommendations of the Supreme Court in running buses to carry students to and from schools.

The Dibrugarh RTA held a detailed discussion on the ownership of vehicles carrying students private or hired and how many of them have been following the safety rules of the apex court, among other things. Those who attended the meeting included Dibrugarh SP Rana Bhuyan, District Transport Officer Syed Rafikul Mannan and Inspector of Schools TC Saikia.

After evaluating the ongoing system of plying school buses, the RTA asked all school authorities in the district to furnish details to the District Transport Office on how many students were using school buses, hired vehicles and private modes of transport.

The RTA also resolved that all those using private vehicles to carry students must obtain school bus permit in adherence to the recommendations of the Supreme Court for the safety of schoolchildren.
