Bid to snatch money foiled at Nagaon

NAGAON, May 7 - Sensation prevailed in Nagaon town yesterday afternoon after two motorcycle-borne miscreants tried to snatch a bag containing of Rs 1.5 lakh.

The miscreants in their bid to snatch the bag dragged the man along with the money over the busy street for around 10 metres following which the victim sustained severe injuries on his back and wrist. But fortunately, the miscreants� attempt proved futile as some bystanders reportedly intervened.

According to sources, one Narakanta Gogoi of Nagaon Kampur withdrew Rs 1.5 lakh from the main branch of SBI here and went to Natun Bazar to accomplish some work there. But when he turned towards a bylane just in front of Hotel Bidisha Continental, two motorcycle- borne miscreants tried to snatch away the bag of money which he was carrying. As the miscreants failed to grab the money following intervention by the bystanders, the miscreants fled the scene.

Meanwhile, the local Itachali police led by IC Mrigen Saikia rushed to the spot and rescued the victim. Police later admitted him to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital.

A sources informed that the victim later lodged an FIR at Itachali police outpost in the evening and police subsequently registered a case in this regard and started investigation so as to trace out the miscreants involved.
