Bid to set up Sabha unit in Tripura appreciated

NILAMBAZAR, June 17 � Officials of Asam Sahitya Sabha recently meet Dr Bhupen Hazarika, the Dada Saheb Phalke award winner, singer and filmmaker at his residence in Nizarapar, Guwahati after a few days of his arrival from Mumbai.

Rongbong Terang and Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, president and secretary of Assam Sahitya Sabha greeted Dr Hazarika with a phulam gamocha, banquet and a few books published by the Sahitya Sabha.

Rong Bong Terong also presented Dr Hazarika with his Karbi version of his Assamese novel Rong Milir Hahi which brought laurels to Karbi Anglong as well as to Assam for bagging the prestigious literary award of Sahitya Academy a few years ago.

At that time Mukibur Rahman, progressive writer, poet and advisor of Sahitya Sabha�s Karimganj district committee was present. Dr Hazarika was apprised by him as well as by the president and secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha about recent developments of making his with Tripura.

Dr Hazarika appreciated the effort of the Sabha after knowing that the branch committee of Karimganj Sahitya Sabha had already been rejuvenated and the Tripura Government�s consent to provide land at Agartala, the capital city, for construction of a Asam Sahitya Sabha Bhawan in the neighbouring State.
