GUWAHATI, Jan 2 - Publishing group Aank-Baak has taken up an endeavour to select the best 100 Assamese books out of over 10,000 books published in the past five years.
As part of the exercise, which will cover books published from January 2011 to December 2015, the final selection of the top hundred books will be done by a special panel. The short-listing of the books will also entail feedback from readers, publishers, intellectuals, critics, researchers, professors and journalists.
�The objective of the move is to select quality books so that the reader does not get confused as an overwhelming number of books are being published in recent years. Cheap publicity of low-quality books goes against the spirit of book reading and impedes promotion of a healthy book culture,� Aank-Baak said in a statement. � Staff Reproter
