Bid to provide succour to hungry people in Jorhat

By Staff Correspondent

JORHAT, July 16 - The Jorhat chapter of Feeding India, one of the countrys largest non-profit organisations working on a mission to eradicate hunger, malnutrition and food-wastage, installed a fridge (named Happy Fridge) at Kenduguri area near the Dhenususa school here on Sunday.

A volunteer of the organisation stated that surplus meals from individuals, communities, weddings, restaurants and company offices, as well as freshly-cooked meals by donors will be stored in the fridge to be served to poor people who do not have adequate or regular access to meals.

The volunteer said that a local person in whose premises the fridge has been installed has agreed to bear the electricity cost of the fridge and also to take care of the initiative undertaken by the organisation.

Earlier in the day, the volunteers of the organisation carried out a feeding drive at the Inter-State Bus Terminus here and fed about 250 people.

The volunteers further said that the organisation was planning to undertake feeding drives among the flood-hit people in the district too.
