Bid to promote riverbank tourism in Nalbari

NALBARI, Nov 21 - In a bid to promote riverbank tourism, Nalbari district administration in collaboration with Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has developed a tourist spot at Chengnoi on the bank of the Pagladia river.

Altogether 10 tents have been set up at the spot for tourists to enjoy the scenic beauty of the river and overnight stays.

It been christened as �Kohuwa Resort�, which was formally inaugurated by Nalbari MLA Ashok Sarma on Wednesday.

Nalbari Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury, Nalbari Zilla Parishad President Nitul Deka, Nalbari Superintendent of Police Amanjit Kaur, among others, were present during the inauguration.

Jyoti Farmers Club will manage the resort with the help of ATDC and Nalbari district administration.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the natural beauty of the river has the potential to attract domestic as well as foreign tourists.

He added that there are facilities for food and lodging at Kahuwa Resort along with other conveniences for the visitors.

Though Rs 1,000 will be charged per night, the charges may go up on full moon nights.

At present, there are facilities for 10 people to stay overnight.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, tourists coming to the riverbank resort will get a refreshing and relaxing atmosphere.

The view of the sunrise from the riverbank is very nice, he said, adding that a lot of rabbits could be seen in the area early in the morning.
