Bid to popularise �rainbow rooster� among farmers of rural areas

HAFLONG, Nov 27 - Kishan Vikash Kendra, Dima Hasao, on Thursday organised a programme in a bid to popularise the �rainbow rooster� � a newly introduced poultry variety suitable for farming in rural areas. The programme held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dima Hasao, began with a speech by chief guest Dinesh Tiwari, a social worker. He called upon the farmers to adopt the low-input scientific technology for better production as well as for uplift of their socio-economic status.

Guest of honour Somendra Longmailai, chief trustee, Keshav Smarak Nyas, Haflong, stressed the importance of poultry farming in order to meet the demand and supply of meat and eggs for enhancing production and productivity through adoption of technology. In the programme, Rashmita Saikia, senior scientist and in-charge, spoke on the activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra for overall development of the district�s allied sectors of agriculture.

The technological details on the scientific rearing of rainbow roosters were briefly explained by Dr N Manoranjan Singh, programme assistant, veterinary. Kabin Medhi, subject matter specialist, fisheries science, delivered a brief lecture on �Utilisation of poultry deep-litter/droppings as low-input technology in organic aquaculture�. Altogether 270 rainbow rooster chicks and 270 kg poultry feed were distributed among the beneficiaries. Each farmer received 27 chicks and 27 kg poultry feed. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Jiljily Thaosen, subject matter specialist, agronomy.
