Bid to make Assam plastic-free State

SILCHAR, Sept 12 - In a bid to make Assam a plastic-free State, PHE Minister Rihon Daimari launched the statewide Swacchata Hi Seva awareness drive here today.

Addressing the gathering at the Banga Bhawan, Daimari said, �Echoing the spirit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India free from the menace of plastic, we have resolved to spread awareness among masses to quit single use plastic. A special drive will also be carried out in all parts of the State from September 11 to October 2 when we shall pay tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. I urge upon all concerned to participate in the mission.�

Daimari administered oath of maintaining cleanliness to the gathering.

Minister of Forest and Environment Parimal Suklabaidya stressed the need to purify minds which shall foster the actions to keep the surroundings clean. Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul also highlighted the importance of keeping the environment clean.
