Bid to keep Umananda pollution-free

GUWAHATI, March 24 - On the occasion of World Water Day 2019, Voice of Environment, a group of environmental activists, today initiated a campaign for an eco-friendly, sustainable and plastic-free Umananda Island here.

According to a statement, as part of the campaign, they will generate mass awareness to keep the heritage site clean and eco-friendly.

�Ignorant devotees and tourists carry plastic bags, beverage bottles, etc., along with other plastic materials and leave them scattered all over the temple premises, which is a potential threat to the island�s ecosystem. On this occasion, the organisation initiated a mission to generate awareness among all people visiting the island. This mission is being supported by Umananda Devalaya Parichalana Samiti, Kamrup (Metro) district administration and Inland Water Transport department,� a statement said.
