Bid to disrupt NRC updating process alleged

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 1 - Alleging that some people are trying to disrupt the NRC updating process in different parts of the State, public activist Prof Deven Dutta today asked the State government to depute CRPF and other armed forces, where the NRC update and document verification is getting obstructed.

In a statement, Prof Dutta said that in several parts of the State, doubtful citizens have even resorted to planned attacks on the police teams and government officials involved in the NRC update and related works. Though the cases of fake documents and pressure to include doubtful citizens in the NRC are being reported in the media, no positive action has been taken in this regard. Perhaps, vote bank politics is getting an edge over the rights of the genuine citizens, he added.

Incidents of Biswanath Chariali and Kampur in Nagaon need deeper investigation so that the culprits could be punished, he added.
