GUWAHATI, June 23 - With an aim to boost tea tourism, a one-of-its kind tea lounge in the State which will offer the best of teas and house a tea restaurant will be unveiled at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre on Tuesday.

It is a joint initiative of the Tourism department, Tea Board, Industry department and the GTAC.

From the best of CTC to orthodox, second flush to specialty teas you name it and you will find it at the lounge to be called chai bar.

The plan to open the lounge at the GTAC was conceived about eight years back, but it could not make any headway till last year. Last year, the GTAC governing body had form a special sub-committee to implement the project.

The GTAC is likely to hire professionals to run the lounge and make it economically viable.

The lounge will be publicized in the materials published for tourists by the Tourism department.

Many tourists who come to Guwahati often look for the best of teas produced here. But they do not find it in the market. The lounge will be a one-stop destination where different varieties of tea will be available. Specialty teas like white tea, olong, green tea, etc., will be the prime attraction. You can taste and then buy the teas, a source said.
