The plan to open the lounge at the GTAC was conceived about eight years back, but it could not make any headway till last year. Last year, the GTAC governing body had form a special sub-committee to implement the project.

The GTAC is likely to hire professionals to run the lounge and make it economically viable.

Many tourists who come to Guwahati often look for the best of teas produced here. But they do not find it in the market. The lounge will be a one-stop destination where different varieties of tea will be available. Specialty teas like white tea, olong, green tea, etc., will be the prime attraction.
