Bid to boost rural governance in State

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 28 In an effort to add momentum to development initiatives at the grassroots, the State Government has decided to improve manpower and infrastructure at the block level.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Rockybul Hussain said the Government is keen to ensure all the welfare projects for the grassroots people are implemented without any hassle and for this his department has chalked out a two-pronged approach to increase manpower through promotion and recruitment and improve infrastructure.

The posts of around 80 BDOs had been lying vacant for long. Today we promoted 61 extension officers to the vacant posts, said Hussain, adding that 40 per cent of the vacant posts in the department would be filled up through promotion and 60 per cent would be filled up through direct recruitment.

Hussain informed that direct recruitment of BDOs would be made through the APSC.

Hussain said his department was focused on decentralisation of power and empowering the panchayats as per the Purkayastha Committee recommendations.
