Bid to boost fish production in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, Sept 24 - Fishery Department functioning under Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has taken a fresh initiative to boost fish production in the hills through self help groups.

The Fishery Department apart from extending various supplementary assistance to private and cooperative units is giving fish seeds to self help groups this time.

Under the new initiative, 150 SHGs of Socheng locality of West Karbi Anglong received substantial numbers of fish seeds of fingerling size. Rupsing Teron, Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, in-charge, Fisheries department was present at the distribution programme as the chief guest.

Executive Member Teron later told the media that the Fishery department will dole out 50, 000 fish seeds of fingerling size to 26 Members of Autonomous Council constituencies spread over Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong autonomous districts.

Stressing the need of fish farming, the EM pointed towards the lofty profit that can be earned from fish farming. He said, �Fish farming is a very profitable job if done sincerely and efficiently, it is an immense source of livelihood.�

Hamren Municipal Board vice chairman Headsing Rongphar, Socheng Village Development Council chairman Romen Pator and other dignitaries were present in the distribution programme.
