DHUBRI, Oct 12 - In a 15-day workshop on making and playing folk instruments like dotara and sharinda at Gauripur Cultural Centre auditorium under the aegis of the state Directorate of Cultural Affairs, it was decided that the artisans/exponents will try to set a world record by playing these musical instruments sometime in April next.
The workshop which concluded on October 4 was participated in by youths from different parts of the district, besides other districts of the state and aimed at promoting folk music for cultural awareness under the Chief Minister�s Rural Development Scheme, where the youths were not only trained to make the folk musical instruments used in Goalpariya music, but also learnt how to play them.
It was informed that the state Directorate of Cultural Affairs aims to train more youths with such skills in the coming days. In December, around 100 trained youths along with senior artistes will play the dotara and sharinda at Gauripur with an intention to set a world record.
Again in April 2020, around 500 trained artistes and senior musicians will play the dotara and sharinda in unison and try to get their names registered in the Guinness Book of World Records, said a release.
The concluding programme was attended by District Cultural Officer Jiten Das along with senior musician Bhupen Roy Kusani and Budhajyoti Das, besides senior journalist Rajib Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, Das said that youths of the district were very talented and had the ability to gasp skills very quickly. �With such talent, artistes of the district will definitely be able to register their names in the Guinness Book of World Records and achieve even more in the days to come.
