Bid at environ conservation ahead of Diwali celebration

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Oct 26 - At a time when the whole world is fighting the menace of plastic and its byproducts, Noopur, Reshmita, Vidisha, Elizabeth and other women in Silchar were seen distributing earthen diyas and neem saplings to people and exchanging messages of environmental conservation ahead of Diwali.

A closer look into the activities inside the premises of Goldighi Municipal Mall revealed that the women under the banner of Inner Wheel Club of New Gen Silchar Titans are also running a social media campaign Green Art wherein they are asking people who have collected the diyas and saplings to post pictures with the merchandises and inspire others to come forward.

Elizabeth Singson, an advocate by profession and an active member of the Inner Wheel unit shared her views saying, This is only a humble effort by the Titans to make people aware of the ill- effects of pollution and environmental degradation. We are glad to witness positive response from the people. We shall award the best Diya and sapling posted on our social media pages.

She also informed that certificates of encouragement were also given to people for taking home the goodies for free.

Himadri Roy, a local businessman who went to see the activities came home with a diya wrapped in a piece of rag. Expressing his happiness, Roy said, I am delighted to see the efforts, especially the way they are handing over the goodies with much care concern and happiness, I wish them all success.
