Bicycles for village girls

TEZPUR, March 8 � The Central Government has been laying special emphasis on the empowerment of girl child through various schemes like Beti Padhao Beti Bachao and construction of girls� toilet in schools.

Army has remained on the forefront to empower the girls of underdeveloped and insurgency affected areas through various welfare measures like running skill development programmes, undertaking infrastructure development projects like construction of classrooms/toilet blocks in schools, etc. In continuation with the aim of ensuring that maximum girls get an opportunity to attend schools, the Army camp based at Baguri on Saturday donated bicycles to girls of village Checklangso in Karbi Anglong district. The aim was to ensure that girls from remote areas can commute to schools comfortably.

The bicycles were handed over to the girl students in a ceremony graced by Moheshwar Teron, village headman of Checklangso, Nikkud Munday, village headman of Kao Pani, Borsing Ingti, village headman of Noton Basti, senior officials from civil administration, military dignitaries and around 300 villagers.

These project is part of the Army�s Sadbhavana effort to improve the standard of living in the underdeveloped regions of the Northeast. The girls and villagers of Checklangso thanked the Indian Army for all the assistance and assured that they will continuously exhort to further strengthen the bond between the local populace and the Army.
