JORHAT, May 28 - A research-cum historical book on freedom fighter and martyr Kamala Miri titled Swahid Kamala Mirir Sangrami Jeevonor Aat Dhori, along with an English translation, was released on Sunday at a function held at Gulung Temera village of Golaghat district, which is the birthplace of Miri.
The book has been authored by Tarun Loying, Assistant Professor in the Department of Assamese, Jorhat College (Amalgamated) while the English version named Martyr Kamala Miri, Tales of an Unsung Hero has been translated by Prashanta Puzari, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, Assam Women�s University.
The Publication Cell of Jorhat College has published the book.
Puzari told this newspaper that Dr Devartha Morang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Cotton University released the book at a function presided over Holiram Loying.
He said that the book is an outcome of a comprehensive research work carried out by Loying on the life and contributions of Miri towards India�s historic struggle against the British rule.
Puzari said that Kamala Miri is one of the forgotten heroes of India�s Independence Movement from Assam. He hoped that the book will be able to highlight the role played by Miri during the Freedom Movement against the British Raj.
It may be mentioned here that in April 22 last year members of Swahid Kamala Miri Mritujayanti Sangrakhan Samiti and people of Gulung Temera village collected soil from the samadhi of Miri from the premises of Central Jail, Jorhat on the occasion of the 75th death anniversary of Miri to construct a memorial at his native village.
