JAGIROAD, April 14 - Brisk preparations are on to hold the Rongali Bihu Utsav centrally here on April 16, 17 and 18 for which initiatives are being taken by the new
committee of the Sadou Jagiroad Rongali Bihu Sanmilan formed by the local public with Jitendra Kumar Deka, Munindra Deka, Dipjyoti Das and Arup Kumar Sarmah as
president, working president and secretaries respectively.
Besides the usual events, the Sanmilan plans to hold two State-level competitions � one on short story writing in Assamese and the other on Bhupendra Sangeet. The
organisers have invited entries for the short story contest from budding writers. The short stories sent for the purpose must be unpublished works. The age of the
competitors must be between 18 and 30 years. The manuscript of the story should carry the competitor�s passport-sized photograph and the true copy of a certificate
about his/her age. The manuscripts containing the names and addresses of the competitors should be mailed to Dipjyoti Das and Arup Kumar Sarmah, secretaries, Sadou
Jagiroad Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, c/o Maa Kali Hotel, Jagiroad Bus Stand, Jagiroad-782410, Morigaon, Assam.
The organisers of the Sanmilan told this correspondent that the short story competition would be held in memory of late Mamoni Raisom Goswami. The case prizes for the
first three positions in the competition will be Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. The manuscripts should be sent on or before April 15.
The organisers have also called for participation in the All Assam Bhupendra Sangeet Competition to be held on April 17 on the premises of the Jagiroad HS School
playground. The first, second and third prize holders will receive Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 as cash awards in the competition.
