Bhupenda remembered on his death anniversary

GAURIPUR, Nov 6 - Under the auspices of the Dhubri branch Sahitya Sabha, the 9th death anniversary of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed on Thursday.

A memorial meeting was chaired by branch president Udayan Chakraborty. Hemen Chakraborty, ex-secretary of the Dhubri Anchalik Sahitya Sabha, offered floral tributes before the portrait of Dr Hazarika. Zakir Hussain, secretary of the branch, explained the purpose of the meeting. A group of young children presented the opening song. The meeting was addressed by Giasuddin Ahmed, ex-president of the branch Sahitya Sabha. Panchu Gopal Chakraborty, ex-vice president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Satyen Pathak, executive member Shyamol Chakra-borty, Jenifa Khanam, Mitali Chakraborty and a few others. Aparna Ghosh, a famous singer of the district, presented a few songs.

The death anniversary of the music maestro was also observed at BN College, Dhubri. Tarani Kanta Roy, president of Dhubri Zila Sahitya Sabha, presided over the memorial meet. A number of speakers, including Dr Upendrajit Sharma, Dr Nandita Prodhani, Dr Mausumi Bhattacharya and Dr Alaka Sharma, addressed the meeting. A number of singers presented songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

JAGIROAD: Rich tributes were paid to Bhupen Hazarika by various socio-cultural organisations in Jagiroad. At Jagiroad town, social worker Jitendra Kumar Deka lit the lamp in front of the portrait of Dr Hazarika. A cultural function was organised at the Kalamandir on Sudhakantha�s evergreen songs in which local artistes performed.

The Dr Bhupen Hazarika Sanskritik Manch observed the 9th death anniversary of music maestro at the community hall at Jagi Bhakatgaon under Mayong Circle with a day-long programme. Floral tributes were paid to Sudhakantha at his portrait by the public. A cultural programme was also organised.

KALAIGAON: The children of Ronghar Sadan, Kalaigaon observed the 9th death anniversary of Dr Hazarika with day-long activities at Kalaigaon on November 5.

The programme was held near the statue of Dr Hazarika at the Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office. Paying of floral tributes at the statue of Dr Hazarika by Circle Officer Runav Ramchiary marked the beginning of the programme. It was followed by �banti prajalon� by Circle Officer (attached) Sujata Goswami. Singer Hirak San Deka conducted a plantation programme. Cultural activities were also organised on the occasion, in which radio artiste Renu Saikia, Hirak San Deka, Bhaskar Jyoti Sivam, Dipsikha Deka, Jahnabi Kalita, Monalisha Kalita, etc. performed. The concluding speech on Dr Bhupen Hazarika was given by Niharika Deka, president, Ronghar Sadan. Barasha Deka, vice president of Ronghar Sadan offered the vote of thanks.

In the evening, 100 earthen lamps were lit in front of the statue of Dr Hazarika. AASU Kalaigaon anchalik committee members and officials headed by Madhurjya Kumar Sarma and Ranjit Nath also participated in the lamp lighting programme in the evening. The evening programme was anchored by Joyeeta Sandilya.

DERGAON: Music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika was remembered on his 9th death anniversary through a special online quiz. In the quiz organised by quiz group Quiztival, class X student Sukanya Gogoi of Sivasagar got the first position, while a teacher from Missamara, Karabi Bora, secured the second position. Social worker of Moran, Dr Samadrita Goswami, and NIT Silchar student Kingshuk Talukdar were jointly declared as the third best participants. The quiz on life and activities of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was conducted by Sanjoy Kumar Hazarika.

Gossaigaon: The ninth death anniversary of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed at Kamamnath Club-cum-library complex as part of a joint venture by the Gossaigaon branch AASU and Kamal Nath Club.

Khanindra Nath Das, a former Goalpara district AASU president, lit the earthen lamp at the portrait of the Sudhakantha and former AASU activist Amardip Ray paid floral tributes.

Parasu Kalita, president of the Gossaigaon branch Asam Sahitya Sabha, Sankar Chandra Das, Manik Deka, Prof Prodip Das, Goutomi Rabha, Lankeswar Choudhury, president of the KN Club-cum-Library, Putul Chandra Das, Debasish Das, secretary of the club, all spoke about the legendary personality.

The cultural function could not be held due to Covid-19 protocol laid down by the government. Afjalur Rahman, secretary of the Gossaigaon AASU unit, anchored the programme.
