BISWANATH CHARIALI, Sept 8 - On the auspicious occasion of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika�s birth anniversary, Pramod Barthakur, MLA, Biswanath announced installing of a 7- foot high statue of Dr Bhupen Hazarika at the railway gate of Biswanath Chariali at a cost of Rs 8 lakh today. Earlier, Uttar Chariali Sanmilita Mancha organized a function to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Biswanath Zila Parishad member Satyendra Hazarika, Lehugaon Gaon Panchayat president Priyanka Hazarika, Niranjan Hazarika, Basanta Borah, Bhaskar Jyoti Borah etc., were present on the occasion.
Prominent sculptor Shiv Prasad Marar was felicitated in the meeting. The construction of the statue will be carried out under the supervision of Shiv Prasad Marar.
Sudhakantha�s 94th birth anniversary was also celebrated at Rupajyoti Kala Parishad bhawan of Pavai under the aegis of Pavai Anchalik AASU.
Duldul Borkataki, central assistant secretary of AASU, delivered a speech on the life and contributions of the music maestro. The programme was conducted by Arpan Basumtari, general secretary of Pavai Anchalik AASU. Azmat Sheikh, Nitu Bara, Sushil Tanti etc., also attended the programme. Saplings were also planted on the occasion.
Our Correspondent from Doomdooma adds: Rich tributes were paid to Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his 94th birthday today. On the occasion, a special programme was organised at Rupai Sakha Sahitya Sabha (RSSS) by following COVID-19 protocols.
In the morning, RSSS president Thomas Gogoi hoisted the Sabha flag at RSSS Bhawan premises while former president Chandrakanta Handique lit the earthen lamp and offered floral tributes at the portrait of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Later, a memorial meeting was held in which the speakers recalled the contributions of Dr Hazarika to Assamese culture and literature. The programme was anchored by secretary of RSSS Jaganath Sonowal with active cooperation from the assistant secretary Ananta Baruah.
Meanwhile, Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha (TZSS) and Keshab Baheti Surjudoy Sishu Griha jointly observed the birth anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika at Keshab Baheti Surjudoy Sishu Griha premises. TZSS president Arjun Baruah lit the lamp and former president Dr Girish Handique offered floral tributes at the portrait of Sudhakantha. Later, a memorial meeting was held. TZSS activists and the inmates and the management body members of the children home participated in the programme.
Rich tributes were also paid to the bard of Brahmaputra by Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha (DSSS) at its office premises today.
Our Correspondent from Sivasagar adds: The 94th birth anniversary of maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika was celebrated in a low-key function in Sivasagar Dolmukh Chariali Dr Bhupen Hazarika Smruiti Kanan today. Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Lakhinandan Gogoi as the chief guest paid tributes to the legendary bard by garlanding the statue of Dr Hazarika and singing a line of his famous song Manuhe Manuhar Babe. Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal, Gargaon College, Ratan Saikia, president, Dikhowporia Yuva Sangha, and a host of others paid floral tributes.
Our Correspondent from Gauripur adds: Under the joint auspices of Dhubri branch Sahitya Sabha and the Anchalik Sahitya Sabha, the 94th birth anniversary of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed on the premises of the branch bhawan today.
Earthen lamps were lit and floral tributes were paid by Rajani Kanta Deka, secretary of the Anchalik office. Floral tributes were also paid by Ahid Khan Parish, Hemen Chakraborty, Jakir Hussain, Satyen Pathak, Uttam Bhakat, Dipankar Majumder and a few others. They spoke about the contributions of the maestro. Zakir Hussain, secretary of the Branch Sahitya Sabha offered thanks to the participants for making the programme a success.
