Bhupen Hazarika�s birthday celebrated

GUWAHATI, Sept 10 � Khanapara Anchalik Sakha Sahitya Chora in association with Surakkha, a socio-cultural organisation celebrated the birthday of Dr Bhupen Hazarika at a glittering function held on September 8, in the premises of Surakkha.

DN Chakravarty, senior journalist in his speech as the chief guest waxed eloquently on the qualities of head and heart of Dr Hazarika. He compared Dr Hazarika with Leonardo-da-Vinci and said that he is the greatest son of Assam who is known the world over.

The function had all the rituals of a birthday including cake cutting and presentation of songs and dances by artistes much to the delight of the audience. Child artistes from Raheni Kala Kendra performed dances on the songs of Dr Hazarika beautifully choreographed by Mandira Hazarika.

Poems were read out by Amal Goswami, Mandakini Mahanta, Parineeta Barua, Niranjan Das and two child artistes from Raheni Nritya Kendra Bijitaswa and Anamika. Arup Kumar Goswami, Ranjit Bhattacharjee and Mandira Hazarika fondly remembered the moments spent with the legendary singer.

Articles were read out by Hiron Barua and Jatin Bora on the qualities of head and heart of the singer. The child artistes who performed dances on the songs of Dr Hazarika were Priyanka Misra and Tapasri Borua.

Bimal Kumar Hazarika, who presided over the meeting, in his presidential speech read out a self-composed poem on Dr Hazarika. This was stated in a press release here.
