DOOMDOOMA, July 14 - The legislator of No.125 Doomdooma LAC Durga Bhumij staged a three-hour sit-in-stir from 11-00 am on Friday at the Gandhi Chowk here in protest against non-fulfilment of various demands.
He demanded the government to set up one more full-fledged college in Doomdooma LAC area, initiate immediate repair of NH-37 passing through Doomdooma, which is in a deplorable state and to solve other unresolved problems of the constituency.
Later, talking to mediapersons, Bhumij said that 732 students failed to secure seats in Doomdooma College this year. Though the government announced to set up a new college in Doomdooma, but it is yet to be implemented.
Bhumij also claimed that due to lack of proper maintenance, the condition of National Highway-37 had become so deplorable that people had been suffering a lot.
The MLA later dashed off memorandums to the Chief Minister, Education Minister and the PWD Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia district.
During the protest, the Opposition legislator was accompanied by senior Congress leaders of Doomdooma.
