By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, April 3 - With an aim to pay tribute to acclaimed actor and playwright Late Lakshmi Borthakur, Kristi Pathar, a socio-cultural organisation, will stage the evergreen Assamese play, Bhogjora, at the Rabindra Bhawan on April 7 and 8, a press release stated.

The play will be directed by actor and director Kripal Kalita. The play will be produced in association with the Faculty Higher Secondary School and many acclaimed actors will play characters, which were immortalised by Natasurya Phani Sharma.

The cast of the play includes Kripal Kalita, Basanta Saikia, Meena Ignti, Ashim Krishna Baruah, Krishna Phukan, Mridul Bhuyan, Hare Krishna Das, among others. Musician and composer Ranjib Das has been entrusted with the background score, while the art production responsibilities are being shouldered by Naruddin Ahmed.

The story of Bhogjora is set in the backdrop of the Ahom kingdom and its plot revolves around two characters, Tipumia Gohain and Swargadeo Lakhisingha, and how the formers plan of killing the latter was foiled by Lakhisinghas intelligence and presence of mind.

Borthakur, who with his subtle acting had won over many hearts in the Assamese film industry, passed away on June 18, 2015. He was not only a part of the cast in many national award-winning films, but in his lifetime had acted in numerous television serials, soaps and plays. Known for his unsophisticated acting, Borthakurs expertise as a playwright, too, had won him many accolades around many scholarly circles in the State.

In the past, Kristi Pathar had successfully staged many plays and television serials, one of which was a play titled Bedbyash, scripted by Late Borthakur and directed by acclaimed theatre director Dulal Roy in 2011.
