Bhattadev varsity observes Swachhata prog

PATACHARKUCHI, Oct 30 - A day-long programme was observed here recently by organising different activities of �Swachhata action plan (SAP) at Bhattadev University of Bajali in Pathsala under the �Swachh Bharat Mission� of the Government of India.

The programme was sponsored by the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Tourism.

The formal meeting began with the welcome speech delivered by Dr Chandana Sarma, Registrar i/c of Bhattadev University. In her speech, she stated that Swachh Bharat Mission is a flagship programme of the Government of India and visualises India as a clean country which is the vision of our Prime Minister.

In order to make this programme successful, the coordinator of IITTM, Sabrina Lyngdoh emphasised on the need and consequences of practising Swachhata in the present day context of uncleanliness and polluted environment of our country.

Another delegate named Chandana Nath lucidly touched upon the main objective of the SAP drive which lays emphasis on creating awareness and sanitation among the gathering, including faculties, office staff and students to change their mindset in order to keep their surroundings neat and clean.

Besides, a movie on the theme �Cleanliness is Godliness� was displayed in front of the gathering. The programme was made more attractive for all with a skit titled Naukad Naatak by the volunteers and students of IITTM and Centre for Tourism Studies, Guwahati.

Aarindam Talukdar, Deputy Registrar i/c and Head incharge of the Department of History and Tourism and Travel Management (TTM) Bhattadev University delivered a brief talk on the theme of swachhata and essentiality in the present-day society by emphasising on holding such kind of meeting for propagation of awareness among the general people.

Ritashree Basumatary, an undergraduate student of Tourism Development of the University interacted with the resource persons regarding swachhata.

At the end of the meeting a pledge was taken by all the faculties, office staff and students of Bhattadev University present in the meeting led by Sabrina Lyngdoh.

The programme was anchored by Ritu Barua, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, Bhattadev University. The vote of thanks was subsequently offered by Dr Anupal Saikia, Assistant Professor in the Department of History of the university.
