By Correspondent

JORHAT, Oct 8 For the first time in the history of Satras, the Bhakats of Natun Kamalabari Satra, Majuli are going to stage a sit-in demonstration programme in front of the Satra to protest against the corruption of the Satradhikarr Narayan Chandra Deva Goswami on October 12. They are also going to give a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India through the SDO, Majuli subdivision on the same day demanding probe into the rampant corruption by the Satradhikar of Natun Kamalabari Satra. This was revealed by Prabhat Bora Burhabhakat, Natun Kamalabari Satra at a press conference held at Jorhat Press Club, here today.

Addressing the mediapersons, the Burhabhakat said that the Satradhikar was involved in rampant corruption of Satra funds without the knowledge of the Baishnav Bhakats of the Satra. He raised as many as 11 allegations against the Satradhikar. He also added that by the irresponsible activities on the part of the Satradhikar have threatened the integrity and unity of the Satra. The traditional rules of the Satra had been violated by the Satradhikar for personal financial gain.

It is noteworthy that the Satra was established by the 120 Baishnav Bhakats in 1936 protesting against the dictatorship of the Satradhikar of the old Kamalabari Satra. So the management of the Satra is conducted by the Bhakats there. But the present Satradhikar of Natun Kamalabari Satra tried to grasp power of his own, Burhabhakat alleged.

He also pointed out the nepotism by the Satradhikar in the appointment of teacher in the Sanskrit Tol in the Satra. He also alleged that the Satradhikar has been working as the principal of the Sanskrit Tol even though he is now 68 years old as the Satradhikar himself mentioned in the book Satriya Sanskritir Swarnarekha.

The agitating Bhakats resolved to send a copy of the memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam and Union Minister of DoNER too.
