Bhakat Chapori to get a permanent bridge soon

By A Correspondent

MAJULI, June 12 - After inaugurating a wooden bridge at Bhakat Chapori on Saturday, the DC of the district, Pallav Gopal Jha promised to construct a permanent bridge there soon, which has been the demand of the people of that area since a very long time.

The largely-agriculture dependent Bhakat Chapori area of Majuli, consisting of 18 villages has been facing the problems of erosion and lack of communication since a long time as it has been consistently eroded by the Brahmaputra and a suti (a small rivulet of the Brahmaputra) separates it from the mainland of the district.

As this suti of the Brahmaputra is the main medium of communication for the people of Bhakat Chapori with the outer world, every year before floods the people make bamboo bridges over the suti with their own money. But every time a wave of flood washes the bamboo bridge away and the people have to construct it again with their money.

Having faced this problem for years, the announcement by Jha that a permanent bridge will come up soon was like music to the ears of the local populace. Jha inaugurated a 100-metre-long wooden bridge over the suti, which was constructed from the Anchalik Panchayat development Fund through the Majuli Development Block and in collaboration with the Dakhin Kamalabari Gaon Panchayat.
