Bhabani Baruah passes away

GUWAHATI, May 25 � Noted sports organiser of the State Bhabani Charan Baruah died at a local nursing home here this morning. He was 68.

Former sports officer of Assam State Electricity Board, Baruah was the secretary of Assam Football Association for several years in 1980s. He was also a life member of Guwahati Sports Association and adviser of Maharana Athletic Club.

Baruah, a resident of Panbazar here, was actively associated with several State level sports associations. He was a national level footballer and volleyball referee and conducted many national level football matches. During the 70s and 80s he was a familiar referee in the Bordoloi Trophy.

Closely associated with the Maharana AC, Baruah had been the secretary of the trust board of the premier club of the State.

His body was taken to the Guwahati Sports Association, Assam Football Association, Maharana AC before his last rites at the Bhutnath crematorium. MLA Capt Robin Bordoloi along with members of the Maharana AC paid floral tributes to Baruah. His death was condoled by AFA secretary Ankur Dutta, GSA president Rana Goswami, Gauhati Town Club, Guwahati Referee Association, Board Sports of Assam, Dolphin Swimming and Training Centre, Taibun Nesha, Bishnuram Nunisa and many others.
