AGARTALA, July 9 - Broad Gauge passenger train service between Silchar and Lumding section would be resumed from July 13 next.

After safe passage of seven goods trains on the newly built diversion at Microndissa in Assam, the NF Railway authority is in a jubilant mood. On Friday, General Manager NFR HG Jaggi and other top officials reviewed the situation at Microndissa.

According to reports, a goods train having 46 bogies crossed the newly built diversion at Microndissa safely on Thursday.

After that goods trains stranded for nearly two months have started moving towards Barak Valley and Agartala. Upbeat by the development, the NFR authority has decided to open the suspended Silchar-Lumding section on July 13. Besides, the NFR plans to introduce BG train service upto Agartala in between July 25-30.

We are going to seek permission from the Railway Ministry to flag off regular passenger train service upto Agartala by July itself. If Delhi clears it, then BG train will start by the planned time, said a senior NFR official over telephone from NFR headquarter at Maligaon in Guwahati.

Sources said, the old track at Microndissa would be repaired very shortly as part of alternative arrangement as the area is landslip-prone.

According to latest reports, seven goods trains carrying essential food items are on the way to Agartala.
