BG link to Agartala by March 2016

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, March 23 Agartala will join the countrys BG rail network by March 2016 with the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) planning to undertake mega block from Karimganj to Agartala from October 1, official sources said here on Monday.

Sources said the proposed mega block is supposed to take six months but the NFR aims to get it completed well before the stipulated time. Probably, the mega block work would be completed within four months since the NFR has already made good progress in rail track laying from Karimganj to Agartala.

In fact, the NFR had kept a provision of BG line while it was laying the track from Dharmanagar to Agartala via Kumarghat few years ago. Thats why the work for BG rail track work will take less time.

As per the schedule, the BG work in between Karimganj to Agratala will start from October 1 next. We are expecting to get the project completed by four months though it is supposed to take at least six months, said an official of the NFRs construction wing. It means restricted rail service in the State will remain suspended from October 1.

NFR sources said the railway extension work from 44 km Agratala to Udaipur has made good progress. Around 90 per cent work has been completed so far and remaining work will take a couple of days, said the official.

The entire 44 km rail track from Agartala to Udaipur has been made on BG format so that there would be no problem in running BG rail head upto Udaipur.

Meanwhile, the railway extension work from Udaipur to Sabroom has also been making good progress. By 2017, the people of Sabroom can expect to see BG rail head if the pace of work is not stalled, the NFR sources said.
