Bezbaroa family meet begins at Sivasagar today

SIVASAGAR, July 11 � A two-day conference of the famous Bezbaroa family will begin here tomorrow. The celebration is being held in synchronisation with the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Sahityarathi Laxminath Bezbaroa.

The conference will begin with flag hoisting in the morning by the organising committee president Satyabhushan Baruah, which will be followed by smriti tarpan to be offered by the Satradhikar of Uttar Kamalabari Satra, Janardan Deva Goswami. In the afternoon, �Satyanarayan Puja� will be held to be followed by a discussion on forming a permanent committee with the members of the Bezbaroa family and a draft constitution in the evening at 7 pm.

On July 13, the programme will begin with an open meeting at 10 am. The working president Rabindranath Bezbaruah and secretary Dr Binaybhusan Baruah have requested all to attend the ceremony.

The itinerary also includes formal release of the Bezbaroa Bongshawali, release of souvenir, religious discourse among other programmes.

It may be mentioned that among the most illustrious members of the Bezbaroa clan, apart from the Sahityarathi himself are: Hem Chandra Baruah, the writer of the immortal Hemkosha, freedom fighter Piyali Baruah, who was hanged and Singha Purush Radha Govinda Baruah. A website will also be launched on the occasion, where names of every member of the Bezbaroa family will be incorporated.

The avowed aim of the conference is to bring together members of the greater Bezbaroa family for facilitating greater cohesion, to organise another meet in the near future where the complete genealogical tree will be publicly displayed, and to constitute a permanent forum for charting the future strategy, besides updating the family tree.
