Bethany Hospital in Shillong reopens

By STAFF Correspondent

SHILLONG, May 23 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today visited the Bethany Hospital here, which reopened after being closed for over a month following detection of the first COVID-19 case of the State.

Dr John Sailo Rynthathiang, the 69-year-old founder of the hospital who had contracted COVID-19, passed away in the hospital on April 15. He was the first COVID-19 patient in Meghalaya. After Dr Sailos demise, the hospital and its second campus at Nongpoh in Ri-Bhoi district were sealed.

I thank the entire Bethany Hospital team who responded to the pressure in a positive and cooperative manner.

I also thank the network and the community which supported the Government and the Bethany Hospital during the time, the Chief Minister said.

Sangma was joined by Dr Sailos widow and other family members in paying tribute to the deceased.

Sangma said the biggest tribute to Dr Sailo would be for the medical team to continue with the good work and fulfil his vision for the people.
