GUWAHATI, June 25 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today thanked the Guwahatians for giving a decisive mandate to the Congress in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections. He also congratulated the victorious candidates of the Congress.
According to an official press release signed by Bharat Chandra Narah, Press Advisor to the Chief Minister, Gogoi said that the Congress did exceedingly well by securing an absolute majority despite a misinformation campaign launched by the Opposition and a section of the media. Moreover, there were some civic problems like artificial flood, he said.
�These are best results so far since the creation of the municipal body in 1974. This time our results are better than the results in 1995 and 2003 GMC elections. I must thank the denizens of Guwahati for reposing faith and confidence on us,� he said.
