Bengaluru lift maiden ISL title

By The Assam Tribune

MUMBAI, March 17: A late strike by Rahul Bheke in extra time of the final of the Indian Super League helped Bengaluru FC clinch their first ISL title at the Mumbai Football Arena here today.

It was in the 116th minute that the decisive goal was finally scored.

Both the teams tried their best to beat each others defences but neither managed to find the desired result during regulation time. Even with the match proceeding into extra-time, the decisive goal still eluded them. Although Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was not as busy as Naveen Kumar but FC Goa did a commendable job to head into extra time on level terms.

Sunil Chhetri finding the ball on the left flank controlled it before laying a cross into the box. Miku rose high to reach the ball first but his header went over the bar in the 24th minute.

Udanta Singh on the middle, just outside the box took a shot towards goal but was not so powerful. The ball found Miku whose first touch was not that great. With a charging keeper, Mikus cross towards the middle of the box from the right side edge was cleared away by the head of Mourtada Fall.

Switching sides, it was the same old saga which repeated with both sides failing to find the back of the net. Agencies
