BONGAIGAON, July 6 � NRC forms submitted by the Koch-Rajbongshi people of the State with legacy documents linked with their ancestors who had lived in North Bengal districts have been rejected by the NRC Seva Kendras in some districts of the State, alleged AKRSU�s Biswajit Ray group.
Most of the Koch-Rajbongshi people of Dhemaji, Goalpara, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Baksa and Udalguri have links with their ancestors having origins in Bengal. The NRC forms submitted with these link documents by these people are not being accepted in Seva Kendras, student leaders alleged.
According to AKRSU and its wings, Chilarai Sena and Koch-Rajbongshi Mahila Samiti, since the Bengal and Assam were the parts of historical Kamatapur, hence Koch-Rajbongshi people, who are the sons of the soil, of these parts must be included in the NRC without considering their link documents. It is also a demand the student group had raised before the Government.
�We want updated NRC free from aliens and we never accept branding of our people as foreigners by any authority�, said Shankar Das, president in charge of AKRSU (B).
The student organisation would stage a 3-hour demonstration in Guwahati on July 21 to press for their demands of Kamatapur and ST status. They willl also celebrate their 25th foundation day at Sidli in Chirang on July 29.
