Bengal girl Sweta bags AITA crown

GUWAHATI, June 20 - Second seed Sweta Samanta of West Bengal clinched the girls singles title in the ongoing AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament for boys and girls U-18 years at the All Assam Tennis Association Complex in Chachal here.

In the final which was played today, Sweta upset top seeded Assam girl Kristi Boro in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. In the boys doubles final, Tushar Paul and Manan Nath defeated Kritanta Sarma and Harshad Borah of Assam 7-6 (5), 3-6, 10-7 to lift the crown.

The boys singles final will be played tomorrow at 9.30 am between Kritanta Sarma of Assam and Arif Afzal of West Bengal. In the semifinal played today, Kritanta defeated Ashish Parida of Odisha 6-1, 6-1 while in the other semifinal Arif Afzal of West Bengal got the better of Tushar Paul of Assam in a gruelling three setter 6-2, 0-6, 6-1.
