GUWAHATI, Aug 27 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today inaugurated the new academic block and unveiled the bust of Bharat Ratna, Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Royal Global University (RGU), according to a press release.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal highlighted the cultural heritage and richness of Assam. He laid emphasis on the need to follow the laws of nature and called for conservation of water and restoration and protection of the environment with strong determination. He shed light on two vital elements which when balanced, can lead to growth and prosperity of a region � economy and ecology.
He also referred to the Act East Policy and pointed out how it helped in integrating this part of the country which was previously neglected, with both the ASEAN and the BBIN countries.
He called upon the students to strive to be smarter than the smartest in this age of cut-throat competition where only the fittest will survive.
The inauguration was done in the presence of Queen Oja, MP, Guwahati; Bimal Bora, MLA; Hrishikesh Goswami, Press Advisor to the Chief Minister; Bikul Chandra Deka, vice chairman, Assam Petrochemicals; Syed Mominul Awal, Chairman, Assam Minority Development Board; Deepak Kedia, IGP Law & Order; AK Pansari, RGU Chancellor; AK Modi, RGU Pro-Chancellor; Prof SP Singh, RGU Vice-Chancellor, faculty and students. A sapling was also planted by the Chief Minister.
RGU Chancellor Pansari in his welcome speech, lauded the Chief Minister for his dynamism, perseverance and his ability to reach out to the masses. He spoke about the exodus of students from the North East and about his vision to put an end to this �brain-drain�, also requesting support from the government to turn his dream into a reality.
The gathering was also addressed by RGU VC Prof Singh, who expressed his views on the need to reinstate values of sanskriti, samriddhi and sukriti among the youth of the nation.
Guwahati MP Oja too shared a few words of wisdom with the students. She praised the entire RGU team for their dedication and competency, hoping for it to emerge as a forerunner among the list of top private universities in India.
A function was held where a cheque of Rs 5 lakh was donated towards the Chief Minister�s Relief Fund for the flood victims of Assam by the faculty and staff of RGU and Royal Global School from their one day�s salary.
