GUWAHATI, April 20 � The 65th birthday of eminent scholar and writer Dr Parag Kumar Bhattacharyya will be celebrated at the Guwahati Press Club on May 3 at 11 am.
Dr Bhattacharyya has authored 18 literary treatises, 10 novels, 12 short-story collections, four books of poetry, two books of lyrics, besides translating poems, short stories and novels of different languages into Assamese. He is also a popular lyricist of the All India Radio and a scriptwriter of the Doordarshan. A novel by Dr Bhattacharyya, entitled Sakha-Prasakha and a felicitation volume on him will be released on the occasion, stated a press release.
Kanak Sen Deka, former president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, will release the novel while veteran journalist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan will release the felicitation volume. Riju Hazarika, writer and Rajendra Mohan Sarma, publisher, will attend the occasion as the guests of honour.
Dr Sonaram Hazarika, secretary of the celebration committee, has requested all the well-wishers to attend the function, the press release added.
