BCPL to help train 5,000 skilled workers

DIBRUGARH, March 22 � Union Minister in-charge of the Assam Gas Cracker Project, B K Handique is a happy man today. The project�s promoters, Brahmaputra Cracker & Polymer Limited (BCPL) today briefed the minister at Lepetkata here that about 5,000 youths would be sent for training in highly skilled vocations in the construction sector. Upon completion of training, these youths would be hired for construction work at the Gas Cracker Project.

The minister expressed happiness at the progress of work at the project, and sought the cooperation of all in ensuring the unit�s timely completion. He was shown around the sprawling 3000 bigha project area by the BCPL managing director, J K Singh Teotia.

Handique was also given a detailed briefing on the project and the prevalent law-and-order situation by the BCPL officials and the DC and SP here. He later told this newspaper that he was quite happy with the law-and-order situation, but expressed his hope that much more workers would be on their jobs to herald the �peak construction phase�. He added that the training programme for skill enhancement of locals in the construction sector would be assisted by the DoNER Ministry.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the DGM (Construction) of BCPL, S P Singla has been reverted to GAIL. His marching order was served on him today. One Yougesh Kumar would be functioning in this post till a full-time incumbent is appointed. There has been a spate of allegations against Singla, with several local youth and student organisations demanding his removal. These organisations have been placated today.
