BCPL faces demonstration by differently-abled persons

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, March 19 - Differently-abled persons from the district under the banner of Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha today resorted to demonstration in front of the main gate of the administrative block of Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) in protest against the indifferent approach of the BCPL authorities towards the rights of differently-abled persons.

It needs to be mentioned here that the members of the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha had submitted a memorandum to the BCPL authorities on February 28, demanding 4% job reservation in the industry in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016. The BCPL authorities had reportedly assured the leaders of the organisation that a joint meeting would be convened within three days to discuss the issue but nothing has happened till date. The BCPL authorities had promised us of discussion within three-days but even after 20 days, they kept mum. So we had to resort to agitation today. We are demanding what we deserve, which is 4 % job reservation in BCPL on the basis of the rules under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, said Ajoy Kumar, president, Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Dibrugarh.

The protestors staged demonstration for about an hour from 11 am. They called off the demonstration after officials from the BCPL arrived at the scene, listened to their demands and assured them to discuss the issue on March 28.
